Tigers Favored Over Forney 11
By John Barker
The Dallas Morning News, 12-A Roundup
Thursday, September 25, 1952

Clark Hitt’s Lancaster Tigers and the high-flying Jackrabbits of Forney, Class B powerhouse, collide Friday night at Forney in the week’s top attraction involving District 12-A schools.

The Tigers are the favorites in 12-A. They’ll get a real test when they meet the Jackrabbits, who hold a 33-to-6 victory over Rockwall and a 38-to-0 triumph over Wylie.

By comparative scores, the Tigers are slight favorites. Lancaster dumped Wylie, 54 to 6; however, with the home field advantage, Forney will be hard to handle.

Wilmer-Hutchins and Seagoville, impressive last week, battle Sunset B and Woodrow Wilson B, respectively. The Eagles upset a fine Grapevine team, 6 to 0, last Friday, while the Dragons rolled over Crozier Tech B, 47 to 6.

Another upset last week was Lancaster’s 14-to-0 defeat at the hands of Itasca.

In other games last week, Royse City edged Rockwall, 6 to 0; Richardson tied Class AA Carrollton, 6 to 6; Frisco blanked Plano, 13 to 0; Wills Point whitewashed Ferris, 20 to 0, and Kaufman defeated Canton, 2 to 0.

In other games this Friday, Terrell is at Kaufman. Ferris travels to Midlothian, Carrollton invades Plano and North Dallas B plays at Richardson.

In a Thursday night game, Rockwall and Wills Point meet at Rockwall.

The other Dallas area Class B team, Duncanville, entertains Burleson.

Seagoville’s Jake Landess was the loop’s offensive star last week scoring four touchdowns in the Dragons’ victory over Crozier Tech B. That goal-line-crossing exhibition sends the Dragon star out in front in the 12-A scoring race with 30 points, 12 ahead of his two teammates, Alvin Wells and Joe Chambless, who are tied for second place with three touchdowns each.

This week’s line-up, with favorites capitalized:

TERRELL at Kaufman - The Tigers are one of the power of AA. Kaufman has scored but two points in two games. Last year it was Terrell, 19 to 0. It will probably be something like Terrell 40, Kaufman 6, this Friday.

Woodrow Wilson B at SEAGOVILLE - The Dragons will run into their toughest foe this season, but with Landess, Chambless and Wells rarin’ to go, it’s Seagoville 20, the little Wildcats, 6.

WILLS POINT at Rockwall - Wills Point hold two victories over 12-A schools. After Friday it will hold three. Wills Point 27, Rockwall 0.

North Dallas B at RICHARDSON - The Eagles pulled a surprise last week in tying Carrollton. They should win one this week, say Richardson 12, North Dallas B 0.

Sunset B at WILMER-HUTCHINS - There are several Sunset teams roaming the county. Don’t know which one is going to Wilmer, but the nod is given to Coach Bill Roberson’s Eagles, 13 to 7.

Burleson at DUNCANVILLE - The home team, 13 to 6.

LANCASTER at Forney - Would like to skip this one, which likely will be decided by an extra point. Lancaster seems to have the better conversion specialists. Lancaster 20, Forney 19.
