Rites today for ex-teacher Ada Lou Blacketer

Services for Ada Lou Blacketer, a longtime Dallas teacher, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Dallas.

Mrs. Blacketer died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. She was 86.

She was born in the Kaufman County town of Forney, and started teaching in 1923 in the neighboring Rockwall County community of Heath. In 1947, she moved to Dallas and began teaching in the Dallas Independent School District.

While teaching mainly first grade at Reinhardt, Colonial and Ascher Silberstein elementaries, she received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of North Texas. She retired in 1971 from Ascher Silberstein.

Mrs. Blacketer is survived by one sister, Mary Dean Dozier of Pampa, Texas.

 

Note: Ada Lou Dozier Adams Blacketer is buried at Hillcrest Cemetery with her first husband, Hal Stephenson Adams.
