Saturday afternoon in the Criminal District Court the motions of W.P. Newton and George Hammil [Hamill], who had been convicted and given five years each in the penitentiary for the killing of a man named Peel near the Kaufman County line, were heard. The motion of Newton was overruled and that of Hammil sustained, he being granted a new trial.
