Van Buren Hatley Pioneer Resident of Forney Died Here Saturday

Van Buren Hatley passed away at his residence here, April 12, 1941 at 10:20 p.m. after a brief illness, at the age of 65 years, nine months and eight days. He was born near Ablemarle, Stanley county, N.C. July 4, 1875. He moved to Forney in the fall of 1882 at the age of eight years, having resided here since that time.

He was united in marriage to Miss Lottie Elizabeth McFarland, July 30, 1901, with the Reverend Selvidge officiating. To this union ten children were born, five sons and five daughters, one daughter, Irene Julia preceeded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the residence Sunday afternoon conducted by the Rev. L.B. Jenkins of Midlothian, assisted by Rev. L.M. Joines, Interment followed in Hillcrest cemetery. Active pallbearers were: Bernie Duke, Jim Townsend, Yancy Dailey Adams, John Pippins, Bill Reagin and Arthur Pinson.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lottie Hatley, Verner Hatley of Dallas, Lewis Fowler, Warren and Ernest Hatley of Forney. Mrs. Lester Ash of Mequite, Mrs. J.A. Borth Jr., of McLendon, Mrs. J.D. Burch of Terrell and Carrie Mae Hatley, Forney. Four grand daughters, one grandson, two sisters, Mrs. Ada Robertson and Mrs. Irene Moore of Forney and several nieces and nephews.
