Silas B. "Cap" Townsend Obituary

The funeral service for S.B. Townsend, the notice of whose death appeared in The Tribuen Tuesday, was held this afternoon at the First Baptist church of Forney, with Rev. L.M. Joines pastor, Rev. L.B. Jenkins of Italy, and Rev. Nelson and Rev. J.S. Stanley of Dallas conducting.

Interment was made in the Forney cemetery. Active pallbearers were: James Townsend, Clifford Townsend, John Morton, Ed Morton, Jack Morton and Luke Shipley, nephews of Mr. Townsend.

S.B. (Cap) Townsend was a native of MIssissippi. He was born on Nov. 5, 1876. He came to Texas at the age of 13, and spent the greater part of the time since 1890 in and around Forney.

Mr. Townsend married Miss Gracie Patton in 1910, to which union four children were born, one of whom preceded him in death. Surviving are Mrs. Townsend, one oson, Hudgins Townsend; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Lindsey of Forney and Mrs. Audie Wade of Abilene; two grandchildren; one brother, J.C. Townsend, and two sisters, Mrs. S.P. Morton of Terrell and Mrs. K.W. Morton of Forney.

Mr. Townsend had been a member of the Baptist church for many years.

 

Note: Silas B. "Cap" Townsend is buried next to his wife Gracie at Hillcrest Cemetery. He died January 6, 1941.
