Mrs. Lula Shanks is Buried Today

Mrs. Lula Shanks, resident of Forney, died in Dallas Monday afternoon. Funeral services will be held from the First Baptist Church in Forney at 4:00 p.m. today with the Rev. James Stanley and the Rev. L.M. Jones officiating.

Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Forney under the direction of the Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home.

Lula H. Shanks was born in Greenville, Alabama on August 25, 1889. She came to Texas and to Forney in 1914 and had lived in and near there since that time.

She was a member of the Baptist Church.

She was married to Herbert Brewer Shanks in 1903 and to this union four children were born.

Her husband and one daughter preceded her in death and she is survived by: two sons, Asa Edward Shanks of Mesquite, John Kendrick Shanks of Edwards Air Force Base in California; one daughter, Mrs. Moody Ash of Mesquite; six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Smith of Birmingham, Alabama; a number of nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

 

Note: Lula Rogers Shanks is buried at Hillcrest Cemetery next to her husband Hubert Berry Shanks. Neither have headstones. She was born August 25, 1889 and died December 16, 1956.
