Prominent Texas Physician Dies at Home in Forney

Dr. D. H. Hudgins

Forney, Texas - Dr. David Houston Hudgins, 87, a prominent Kaufman County physician and a resident of Texas since 1880, died Saturday at his home here.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Gus Ramage, pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in Hillcrest Mausoleum, Dallas.

Born March 2, 1868, in Scottsboro, Ala., Dr. Hudgins came to Texas with his parents, who settled at Grapevine in 1880. After graduating from Memphis, Tenn., Medical College, he began the practice of medicine at Crandall in 1895.

Dr. Hudgins moved to Forney in 1901 and played an important role in the medical history of Kaufman County. He retired from active practice in 1949 after 54 years of service.

He was active in the Christian Church for most of his life. He was past president of the North Texas Medical Association, vice-president of the Texas State Medical Association and was secretary and delegate of the Kaufman County Medical Society for 25 years. From 1940 to 1947 he served as a member of the medical advisory board, Selective Service.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Jack W. Hudgins of Dallas; a daughter, Miss Inez Hudgins of Ridgewood, N.J., and two grandchildren.

HUDGINS, Dr. David Houston, passed away at his home in Forney. Survived by wife, Mrs. Alice Pinson Hudgins; daughter, Inez Hudgins, Ridgewood, N.J.; son, Jack W. Hudgins, Dallas; brother, Dr. B.E. Hudgins, Dallas; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Services 10 a.m. Monday, First Christian Church, Forney, Texas, Rev. Gus Ramage officiating. Entombment, Hillcrest Mausoleum.
