Unknown Newspaper
Sunday, January 27, 1952

Mrs. Claudia C. Townsend, former resident of Forney for many years, passed away in Dallas Friday afternoon. The body was returned to Forney to the Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home and will repose there until the funeral hour. Services will be held in the First Baptist church in Forney at 2:00 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. L.B. Jenkins officiating. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers and the interment will be in the Hillcrest cemetery in Forney.

Claudia Cornelia Townsend was born in 1883* and remained a resident there until six years ago when she moved to Dallas to make her home.

She was a member of the Southern Crest Baptist Church in Dallas.

She married S.T. Townsend on September 20, 1887 and to this union 12 children were born. Her husband and five children preceded her in death and she is survived by: four sons, Henry Townsend, Floyd Townsend and Claude Townsend, all of Dallas, Lonnie Townsend, of Josephine, Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Jessie Nalls and Mrs. Birdie Cowart of Dallas, Mrs. Ethel Pannel of Irving; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Taylor of Forney; other relatives and many friends.

Note: According to the Texas Death Index, Claudia Cornelia Townsend died on January 25, 1952 in Dallas County. *1883 is obviously not her birth year. The records for Hillcrest Cemetery shows she was born on December 1, 1870. This is closer to the age, 81, listed in the first obituary.
