Class of 1920 Holds Reunion

Mrs. Cleo Hinton was hostess Sunday to a High School class reunion. Mrs. Hinton, one of the members of the Forney High School class of 1920 and the only one to remain in Forney, conceived the idea of the reunion and after writing each member and receiving enthusiastic responses from all but two, proceeded with plans and Sunday, May 31st, was selected as the day for the celebration. Fifty years ago, the class of eleven members, three boys and eight girls received their diplomas on May 24. All members of that group are still living and it was the golden anniversary of the class.

By noon Sunday, the Hinton home was buzzing with merriment and shouts of laughter over old school pictures and memory books. Joy and happiness shone from faces as they recognized old school-mates, some of whom had not seen each other in the intervening fifty years. Old school pictures, Hi-school banners and silhouettes in caps and gowns were used as decoration throughout the house. The dining table was centered with a lovely bouquet of giant and miniature golden mums.

The buffet centerpiece was an arrangement of red and white carnations, the 1920 class flower and colors. At one o’clock a bountiful buffet dinner was served of baked ham, turkey, potato salad, bean salad, English pea salad, frozen fruit salad, mixed green salad, Mandarin orange salad, jello salad, deviled eggs, squash casserole, olives, pickles, celery, beet pickles, ice tea, coffee, cake and ice cream. (After all who cares about a diet after having been graduated from high school fifty years?)

The afternoon was spent in taking pictures of the class and individuals, looking over old pictures and talking with old friends and class-mates. Special guests outside the class were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Senter, Mrs. Josephine Crittenden, a teacher of the class, Mr. and Mrs. Clem Pinson, Dan Farmer of Terrell and Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Woosley of Dallas.

Two members of the class, Mrs. Inez Futrell White of Waco and Mrs. Flora Sowell Barber of San Marcos were unable to attend. Those of the class attending were Clyde Elliott and wife of Canton; Moody Daniel and wife, Eula Marie Caughran Daniel of Greenville; Sam A. Pinson and wife of Dallas; Mrs. Irene Futrell Hartman and husband of Dallas; Mrs. Lura B. Jones Anderson and husband of Dallas; Mrs. Mary Holloway Campbell of Dallas; Mrs. Kate Tune Owens and husband, Clifford Owens of Richardson; and the hostess, Mrs. Cleo Farmer Hinton.

Time to go came too soon and each one said goodbye with reluctance and a wish that the group might get together again in a few years, for they felt that nothing can take the place of the old schoolmates and the hours spent together at Forney High.
