Vera Dephine (Dean) Townsend, longtime resident of Forney, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 1, 2016. Dean was born Feb. 22, 1933 in Wills Point, TX to the late Henry Edward and Vera Viola (Lee) Hendon both of whom preceded her in death along with her brother Edward Lee Hendon and sister Eloise Hendon Kvapil. Dean lived in Forney for 78 years and graduated from Forney High School then received secretarial certification through SMU in Dallas. She met the love of her life, David Eugene Townsend, and they married Oct. 15, 1952. She was not only a devoted wife but also an active and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Forney where she was a member of the “Believers Class.” Dean worked as an Executive Secretary for Frito Lay and retired after 25 dedicated years of service. After retiring, she filled her days making treasured memories with her beloved David, cherished family, and friends. A gentle spirit known for extending every kindness to all she met, Dean will be missed by all who knew her. Dean leaves to carry on her legacy her husband, David Townsend of Forney; brother, Durwood Hendon and wife Betty of Forney; sister, Joyce Sifford and husband Richard of Holly Lake, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great-nieces and -nephews, loving church family, and a host of friends. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Forney with interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Monday, April 4, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Dean may be made to Hillcrest Cemetery Association, P.O.
