Valtai Layne, Dallas Transit Agent, Dies

Valtai C. Layne, 60, purchasing agent for Dallas Transit Co., died Saturday in a hospital here. He lived at 3114 Culver.

Born in Forney, he lived there a number of years before coming to Dallas. He had been employed by Dallas Transit since 1924.

He was a Presbyterian.

Survivors are his wife, Ruth; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Layne Hendrick; one brother, W.W. Layne, all of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. R.L. Ziller of Austin and Mrs. J.T. Savage of Clearwater, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be conducted by Rev. John R. Hendrick, assisted by Rev. C.W. Hudson, at 10 a.m. Monday in Ed. C. Smith & Bro. Funeral Chapel, 4103 Swiss. Rev. Hendrick will be assisted by Rev. L.B. Jenkins at graveside rites in Forney following services here.

The family requests any memorials be made in the form of contributions to any charitable or church organizations of the contributor’s choice.

Valtai Cecil Layne, 60, of 2233 West Jefferson, purchasing agent for the Dallas Transit Company, died Saturday in a Dallas hospital after a short illness.

A former resident of Forney, he had lived in Dallas for the last 30 years. He had been employed by the transit company since 1924. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Ed C. Smith & Bro. Funeral Chapel, 2115 Ross, with the Rev. John R. Hendrick officiating. Graveside services will be held in Forney.

Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Hendrick of Dallas; a brother, W.W. Layne of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. R.L. Ziller of Austin and Mrs. J.T. Savage of Clearwater, Fla., and four grandchildren.

Valtai C. Layne, 60 of 3114 Culver in Dallas died Saturday in a Dallas hospital. Mr. Layne, an employee of the Dallas Transit company since 1924 was a native of Forney and lived here in his youth.

A member of the Presbyterian church, his funeral services were conducted by the Rev. John R. Hendrick, assisted by the Rev. C.W. Hudson, Monday morning at the Ed C. Smith & Bro. Funeral chapel in Dallas. Rev. Hendrick was assisted by the Rev. L.B. Jenkins at the graveside rites at the Hillcrest cemetery in Forney.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Layne Hendrick; one brother, W.W. Layne, all of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. R.L. Ziller of Austin and Mrs. J.T. Savage of Clearwater, Fla; and four grandchildren.

 

Note: Valtai Cecil Layne is buried at Hillcrest Cemetery next to his wife Ruth Chapman Layne.
