Girl Shot Through Body By Man Near Forney

TERRELL, Texas, Aug 10 (AP) – Officers were trying to capture a man who allegedly shot Miss Mattie S. Latham through the body at a farm near Forney Sunday.

J.W. Kirk, a witness to the shooting said Miss Latham had quarreled with the man.  Her condition at a hospital  here, was considered serious.

 

 

Former Officer Held in Wounding of Former Wife

TERRELL, Aug 13 – Floyd Williams, a former Kaufman county peace officer, was held in jail here today for investigation in connection with the shooting and serious wounding of his former wife, Miss Mattie Latham, at her home near Forney last Sunday night.

Officers learned that Williams had gone to Miss Latham’s home and asked for the return of a packet of letters. The shooting followed. Miss Latham was hit in the chest.

Terrell, Texas, Aug. 13 (UP) – Floyd Williams, former Kaufman county peace officer, was jailed here Thursday in connection with a shooting Sunday near Forney, in which Williams’ former wife, Mattie Latham, was seriously wounded.

According to investigators, the shooting occurred after Williams went to Miss Latham’s home and demanded a bundle of old love letters from his former mate. Miss Williams resumed her maiden name after obtaining a divorce from the former officer.

The woman was wounded in the right breast. She is under treatment in a Forney hospital.

Rockwall – Mattie Latham is in a Forney hospital recovering from a bullet wound, fired by an unknown assailant. The shooting occurred near Heath, a small community west of here.
