Ruth Idell Brooks (Maynard) Obituary

Ruth Idelle Brooks Maynard, age 86, of Terrell, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 in a Terrell hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Jim Barksdale officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Forney.

Ruth was born on May 18, 1920 in South Texas. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Virgil McDonald and Ruth Wilson McDonald. She attended Heath High School, where she graduated valedictorian of her class. She later attended Business School in Dallas and following her graduation, she went to work for Sears in the business office. She married Mr. Theodore Brooks, Jr. in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1971. During her years in Forney, she was a farmer but later began training at Colonial Hospital as a nursing aide and earned her LVN license. She worked for Rockwall Hospital and Nursing Home for 30 years until her retirement in 1998. Mrs. Maynard enjoyed doing yard work, gardening, growing her beautiful roses and watching CNN in her spare time. She was also a member of the Church of Christ of Heath.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kim Haggard; one brother, J.V. McDonald and sister, Betty Stover.

She is survived by her son Ken Brooks and girlfriend Anna of Forney; daughter Martha Hunter and husband, Larry of Terrell; brother Wayne McDonald wife, Linda of Heath; sister: Virginia Tidwell of Arlington; grandchildren: David Lee Brooks and wife, Courtney of Forney and Shelly Haggard of Terrell; great-grandchildren: Hailey Grace of Florida, Shane Haggard, Randell Pickens, Destiny Benson and Timothy Chance all of Terrell.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Goggans Funeral Home.

 

Note: Ruth Idell McDonald Brooks Maynard is buried at Hillcrest Cemetery with her first husband, Theodore Brooks, Jr.
