MESQUITE, Texas – Mrs. N.E. Shands, 65, wife of the president of the First National Bank in Mesquite, died Saturday at her home here.

Mrs. Shands had been a life-long resident of Mesquite. The former Miss Elsie Sara Holley, she married N.E. Shands in 1921, when he came to the First National Bank in Mesquite as a cashier. He became president in 1932.

Active in civic affairs, Mrs. Shands was a charger member and past-president of the Mesquite Senior Women’s Club.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Mesquite.

Survivors, all from Mesquite, also include a son, Gene Shands; a daughter, Mrs. Sara Beth Wilcox, a sister, Mrs. Eula McWorter; two brothers, Raymond Holley and Anson Holley, and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the First Methodist Church of Mesquite, with the Rev. Earl Kifer officiating. Burial will be in Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas.

Pallbearers will be G.R. Porter, W.L. Wilkinson, Charley Tosch, E.R. Morris, Robert L. Hanby, L.B. McLaron, Clinton Shands and L.L. Leake.
