FORNEY, Texas, Sept. 5 – Mrs. Julia Cox Shands, 83, charter member of the Forney Methodist Church and pioneer of this community, died Tuesday at Forney after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Dr. N.E. Shands. Forney was her home since 1872.

She is survived by five sons Dr. P.C. Shands and E. Shands, Mesquite; N.D. Shands and H.J. Shands, Lufkin, and Henry G. Shands, Denton; two daughters, Miss Johnnie U. Shands, Forney, and Mrs. W.F. Thompson, Seattle.

Funeral services will be held at the Forney Methicdist Church at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Paul Stephenson, Greenville, and the Rev. S.T. Ferer, Mesquite, officiating. Burial will be in Forney.
