Crash in Kansas Kills Four of Forney Family

WELLINGTON, Kan. (UPI) – Four members of a Forney, Texas, family were killed Saturday and another member seriously injured when their car went out of control and smashed into a bridge pillar south of here on the Kansas Turnpike.

Dead is the driver of the car, Terry Middleton, 30, his wife, Anne, 29, and two sons, Dale, 7, and Darrell, 5.

A third son, Don Allen, 9 was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where he was under intensive care suffering from a crushed thigh and head injuries.

Sgt. John Fee of the turnpike unit of the Kansas Highway Patrol said the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

The family was en route to visit relatives in Valley Center, Kan., when the accident occurred 9 miles south of here at the turnpike interchange with U.S. 160.

Fee said Middleton apparently had been driving all night and was within 20 miles of the family’s destination.
