FORNEY, Kaufman Co., Texas Dec 16 – Mrs. M. J. Fowler, 98, who was born Texas won its independence from Mexico, died at her home here and will be buried Monday afternoon in Hillcrest Cemetery following funeral services at the Forney Methodist Church.

Mrs. Fowler, who would have been 99 Jan 12, was the mother of Dr. W. M. Fowler of 4521 South Versailles, Dallas.  Three other children also survive; Mrs. Jannie Cole of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Mrs. C.C. Treadcraft of Norfolk, Va. , and Mrs. Minnie Carroll of Los Angeles, Cal.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Georgia in 1826.  She witnessed the Battle of Chicamauga and as a resident of Atlanta saw the city burning as General Sherman pillaged the State on his famous march to the sea.

The aged Southerner came to Texas twenty-five years ago to make her home with her son, who at the time lived in Forney. Her late husband was Dr. Adolphus Fowler of Chattanooga, Tenn., whom she married in 1858.
