Jack Pippins, Mayor pro tem of Forney, dies

FORNEY- Jack Pippins, mayor pro tem of Forney and a former Kaufman County commissioner died Sunday at Colonial Hospital in Terrell, Kaufman County, after a heart attack. He was 70.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the First United  Methodist  Church of Forney.  Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Forney.

Born in Rockwall County, Pippins moved to Forney when he was young.   After graduating from high school, he took over the ownership of his family’s grocery store, Jack Pippins Grocery.

In 1958, Pippins retired from the grocery business and for 20 years served as county commissioner for Kaufman County.  During his office he also served as president of the north Texas County judges and Commissioners Association.

In April, Pippins was elected to the Forney City Council and was appointed mayor pro tem about two weeks ago.

Pippins was named 18982 Senior Citizen of the Year by a Forney community service organization.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Forney.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Pippins of Forney; two daughters , Jackie Costello of Mesquite, and Betty Haynes of Forney; mother, Mrs. Pat Weant of Rockwall; one sister, Mrs. Marie Mills of Forney, and four grandchildren.

Jack, passed away early Sunday morning.  Survived by wife, Edna Pippins, Forney; daughters, Jackie Costello, Mesquite, Betty Haynes, Forney; four grandchildren; mother Mrs. Pat Weant, Rockwall; sisters Mrs. Marie Mills, Forney; other  relatives.  Mr. Pippins was a former Grocery Store owner, Retired County Commissioner, Past President of North and Texas County Judges and Commissioners Assoc; Present Mayor Pro Tem of Forney; Received the Senior Citizen of the Year Award, 82; Member of the Forney Methodist Church.  Services 10 a.m. Monday.  Rev. H. V. Carraway and Jon Whittemore  officiating.  Interment Hillcrest Cemetery, Forney.
