Shands Rites Set Monday at Mesquite

Mesquite, Texas – Funeral services for Dr. Percy Clinton Shands, 88, of 509 Riggs Circle, a retired physician, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Methodist Church in Mesquite. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas.

He died in Dallas Saturday.

Dr. Shands, a native of Forney, was graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Williamson County, with a BS degree and from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., with an MD degree. He did additional graduate work at the Poly Clinic in New York City and at the Illinois School of Electro Therapeutics in Chicago, Ill.

He was a general practitioner in Forney until 1937, when he moved to Mesquite. He retired in 1957.

He was a 51-year member of the Brooklyn Masonic Lodge in Forney and a steward of the First Methodist Church here.

Survivors: Wife; a son, P.C. Shands Jr. of Mesquite; three brothers, H.J. Shands of Lufkin, H.G. Shands of Mesquite; two sisters, Miss Johnnie Shands of Dallas and Mrs. W.F. Thompson of Seattle, Wash., and two grandchildren.
