FORNEY, Texas, Jan 19 – Funeral services for Mrs. A. L. Gilkey, 78, who dies Wednesday at her home in Forney, will be held Friday afternoon at the Christian Church with the Rev. C. E. Chambers of Clarksville officiating.

Mrs. Gilkey was born in Forney, July 29, 1860, on the same farm where she had lived throughout her life.  She was Miss Ann Newton before her marriage to T. J. Gilkey in November 1879.  They had two children.  Roy, who preceded her in death in 1935, and T. O. Gilkey; four grandchildren, Mrs. A.V. York, Dallas, Mrs. M.E. Adams, and Grady and Thomas Gilkey of Bryan; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who survive.

Mrs. Gilkey, one of the oldest pioneers in this section, lived a very active life.  At her age it was not unusual to see her riding over the farm on horseback.  The day of her death she spent part of the day in town and looking over the farm, attending  to the chores.  She was a member of the Forney Christian Church since 1903.  Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery.
