Alliance Cotton Going To Forney

FORNEY, Sept. 10. – At an early hour this morning a train of wagons was observed approaching this city from Mesquite, and from as near as six miles of Dallas.  It proved to be the Alliance, with about 100 bales of cotton, in search of a market, which they readily found here.  Merchants here bought the entire lot, paying 8.35 cash.  Many of them after selling made considerable bills with merchants, and everyone seemed to be satisfied.  They said this would be repeated in about ten days.  Forney, up to date, has bought and sold 900 bales: 400 are now in the yards unsold, and Rhea & Co. have 200 under contract to be delivered Monday.  Reagan & Co. also have the same number to be delivered on the same day.  The two gins here are turning out daily sixty bales, and are greatly behind.

Everything in Forney is strictly business.  Our hay merchants cannot fill the orders that are daily received.  In fact, every business in Forney is doing all its capital will admit of.

Prof. J.W. Edmonds and wife have opened a school in the South Forney building, and Prof. Barney, lately of Terrell, in the North Forney building.  Forney has been fortunate in securing such teachers.  They have reputations second to none in the State, and both families will be great acquisitions to the town.
