Miss Leta Lu Barkley Weds J.A. Harper Jr.

J.A. Harper Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Harper of Whitewright, and his bride, the former Miss Leta Lu Barkley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Patterson Barkley of Hutchins, will reside at 10503 Cayuga upon their return from a wedding trip to Galveston and New Orleans.

Their wedding ceremony was performed Sunday by the Rev. Eldon Traster of Cedar Hill in the First Methodist Church, Forney. Music was presented by Mrs. Fred Gorham and Mrs. Logan Stollenwerck.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of tulle and satin defined with bands of Brussels lace. Her fingertip veil of French illusion was caught to a satin and lace shell headband ornamented with seed pearls and orange blossoms. She carried a fant of imported lace centered with a white orchid and lilies of the valley.

Mrs. Lyn Barkley of Grand Prairie was the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mmes A.T. Barkley of Waco, Jerry Price of Fort Worth, Leon Wolford, the bridegroom’s sister; Phillip Baxter of Midlothian, Miss Sue Johnston of Forney and Miss Jo Anna Irvin of Denton. The bride’s niece, Miss Betty Lu Barkley of Waco, was junior bridesmaid. Anita Palmer of Forney acted as flower girl.

Norman David Harper served as best man. Groomsmen and ushers included the bride’s brother, Lynn Barkley of Grand Prairie, Mr. Wolford, Ross Alexander, Billy Jack Blackerby of Hobbs, N.M.; Larry Conley Cooper of College Station and Don Howard Cook of Harlingen. The bride’s nephew, Daryl Lyn Barkley of Waco was the ringbearer. David Yandell and James Stewart, both of Forney, were candlelighters.

A reception was held in the parlor of the church. Included in the house party were Misses Margie Miller of Forney, Nancy Riter of Forney, Peggy Wilsford of Corsicana, Alva Nell Crumpton of Wichita Falls, Gladine Harper and Mrs. Ross Alexander.

The bride is a graduate of North Texas State College where she was a member of Pi Omega Pi sorority, Gammadions and Future Teachers of America.
